S&S #177 Air Cleaner Backing Plate (With Oddball Air Bleed Hole Location)

We're a little perplexed by this plate, based on the location of the air bleed hole which is centered between the upper and right flange holes. 

In general, most #177 are machined for the Super B.  However, the air bleed hole on the Super B is machined in very close proximity to the right side flange bolt hole.  The air bleed hole location on this plate is different.  First, we thought this might be used for Super L or Super D applications.  But from what we can tell, this pattern does not conform to those bodies, either.  So more research will be required.

All that being said, the three flange bolt holes on this plate do correctly align with the bolt hole pattern on the Super B.  That makes us wonder if perhaps the air bleed hole on the Super B might have been variously configured.  We're not sure.  But we have seen #177 plates with both style air bleed holes machined on the same plate.
