Harley XL Ironhead Sportster Tappet Guides & Tappets  (OEM #18607-57)

There are two styles of this guide.  One with a "slotted" base edge and one that is smooth.  This is the slotted type, which we believe was the early style. That being said, Factory references show the same tappet guide part number for all XL Models 1957-84, and the same part number applies to all 4 guides, intake and exhaust.

Guides are in good, clean condition.  And the bores are straight and clean with no pitting and no observable scoring.  We are only noting normal, light tappet tracking.  So we consider this to be a very nice set.

Tappets have an excellent fit in each bore with no observable play, and the plunge in both directions smoothly and cleanly with no binding.  Tappet rollers are secure with no observable play, and each rolls smoothly.  We are noting some light finish wear, possibly micro-pitting on one of the roller surfaces.  But it's a very light case.

A complete cleaning and re-oiling is required prior to use.  Otherwise, a very nice set of components.
