Product Description

Harley Shovelhead REAR Tappet Guide  (OEM Casting #18611-73, 1973-E76)

In general, very good condition.

Fundamentals are very good.  Bores are straight, and we have already tested a standard tappet in each--fitment was excellent with no evident play, and the tappet movement was smooth and clean with virtually no drag, so these bores are straight.  We are only noting normal, light tappet tracking.  No scoring and no pitting.

The only notable observation is the corner flashings on the bottom tips.  The corners may have been lightly chipped, and the rough edges have been light ground to smooth finish.  On the other hand, these are the later castings, and there may be some flashings and grinding variability, from the Factory, for this vintage.  So this might be normal, as far as we know.  In contrast, the "-53" had a bit more material in this area.  .

FITMENT NOTE:  this is the early, countersunk style in cast iron construction, so it requires use of the countersunk style screw, hex head, using a 1/4-24 screw set.  In contrast, late blocks (late 1976-84) used a flat-based, 12-point screw with a 1/4-20 pitch.  So carefully review your existing cases for the correct screw pitch and hardware requirements.

FITMENT NOTE:  this specific block has the "-73" casting number, which means its original use was for FX and FL models 1973-84.  For pre-73 models, the "-53" castings were used.
