Product Description

Harley Panhead/Shovelhead REAR Tappet Guide/Lifter Block (Over-Sized Drain Holes)

Fundamentals are very good, and there are no cracks, no damage, and no repairs.

We are noting, however, a small cavity in one of the bores, near the top.  Our interpretation is that this might have originated in the manufacturing process.  We can't think of any other way of explaining it.  That being said, we've run a standard tappet into each bore, and fitment was excellent, and tappet action was smooth and clean.

Also, you will note that the pushrod tube drain holes have been over-sized.  Evidently, a previous builder wanted to evacuate the oil from the tube covers more quickly.  We can't conceive of any drawback to this, as such.  But we have found this to be one of the most common modifications to stock guides.

Again, good fundamentals.  But a small pit is present in one bore, and the drain holes have been over-sized.

FITMENT NOTE:

This is the early, countersunk style in cast iron construction, so it requires use of the countersunk style screw, hex head, using a 1/4-24 screw set.  In contrast, late blocks (late 1976-84) used a flat-based, 12-point screw with a 1/4-20 pitch.  So carefully review your existing cases for the correct screw pitch and hardware requirements.
