Harley FXWG/FXST Shovelhead/Evolution Shifter Plate  (OEM #33683-80; 1980-86)

Early shifter plate, specific to the FXWG from 1980-86 and the FXST from 1984-85.  One of our sources shows additional use on ElectraGlide Sport and FLHS-80 models from 1981-84.

Although this plate appears similar to the '87 and later plate, there were some important differences. Specifically, the shifter shaft-lever hole is set back further, compared to the '87 and later plates.  Also, the shaft bushing set on these plates uses a narrower inner diameter, which means the mid-Evo era and late-Evo era shaft-levers are too big for this plate.  Instead, the late Shovelhead and early Evolution shaft-levers must be used.  Panhead-era shafts have the correct diameter, but they are too short.  So the shaft-lever required for this plate is rather specific.  

Lastly, it's worth noting that there were two possible shifter shaft-lever styles used for the 1980-86 vintage.  The early style used the Shovelhead-era clevis connector which was retained by a clip.   The late style used the Evolution-era ball joint connector where the ball joint end was bolted to the shaft-lever.  So, you'll need to consider your shifter rod connector requirements, depending on the target model use.

Black, textured paint is original, but dated.  Grease fitting is attached, and there are no cracks.  You'll also note there is no blind nut on the back side, which is correct.  The blind nut didn't appear until 1987.
