Harley FL Shovelhead 4-Speed Shifter Pawl Carrier & Cover  (1952-79)

Pawl carrier is OEM #34488-52 and can be used on FL transmissions from 1952-79.  It can also be used on the very early FX models to '73.  It is distinguished by its 3-hole pattern for mounting the early levers.  For '74 and later, however, the FX used a 4-hole carrier, cover, and lever set. 

Carrier style is a bit unusual in that it does not feature an upper pawl spring retainer.  And there is no evidence of a machined hole for the retainer screw.  And since the Factory casting number is present, we presume this may be a very early variation on the "-52" casting.
