Harley FL Shovelhead (With Sidecar) Rear Brake T (OEM #42309-70, 1970-72)
In general, this brake T was used on FL and FX models beginning in 1970. However, the machining style, with the attached plug, is indicative of the FL Shovelhead, with Sidecar, from 1970-72.
Specifically, its 4 ports are rounded, not square. And, one of the compression ports exits in the direction of the mount tab, and we suspect this orientation was required for the Sidecar option. In contrast, we believe the non-Sidecar versions were configured for routing in the other direction, and we know there were machining differences between the 1970-72 versions and those that followed.
Lastly, you will note the attached brake line plug. Plugs were only used from 1958-72. But the But the '58-'69 brake T used a flat tab. That makes this particular configuration (with attached plug) consistent with the Sidecar-equipped FL Shovelhead from 1970-72. However, this same brake T, minus the plug, was also used on the FX from 1971-72.
