Harley FL Shovelhead Brake Plate & Plate  (OEM Early Style, 1970-72)

Plate has excellent shape.  It is square with no distortions, the mount holes remain nicely-round, not egged.  And the brake pedal shaft is securely peened with no looseness or play.

Pedal is the early type.  Specifically, the spring tab has a 90 degree angle which was used for the 1970-72 vintage.   For 1973 and later, the tab had a 45 degree pitch, and there were some other variations, possibly different bushing sizes for the '73 and later style (see "Fitment Note" below).  Original chrome finish is weathered and dated.  But the pedal is square, and the grease fitting is present. 

Both plate and pedal have dated finishes.  But repainting or powder coating is straightforward. 

FITMENT NOTE: There were two versions of this pedal:  early #42402-70 for 1970-72 and late #42402-73 for 1973-78.    This is the early version for '70-'72 applications.    From what we have observed, the differences between the early and late versions are threefold: 

1) the return spring tab on this pedal has a horizontal orientation whereas the late version is angled up at 45 degrees.   

2)  the clevis tab on this pedal is slightly shorter whereas the late pedal is marginally taller.   

3) the shaft bore on this pedal is approximately 11/16".  In contrast, we believe the '73-'78 pedal used a bushing with a 5/8" diameter.   To our knowledge, early and late components don't interchange.
