Harley FL/FLH Shovelhead OEM Brake Pedal & Plate (Early Style, 1970-72)
Pivot shaft is correctly peened, and it is secure with no looseness or play. Plate is in square condition, and there are no added holes. No grease fitting is present, so one will be required. Black paint finish is probably not original.
This specific set of components is correct for the 1970-72 vintage. It is distinguished by its pedal spring tab which has a 90 degree angle. For 1973 and later, the spring tab had a 45 degree angle. Also, the bushing styles varied from early assemblies, relative to late assemblies (see "Fitment Note" below). That being said, this plate will certainly mount to the '73 and later bikes, if required.
No spring or stop plate is included. Just the plate and pedal, exactly as pictured.
FITMENT NOTE: There were two versions of this pedal: early #42402-70 for 1970-72 and late #42402-73 for 1973-78. This is the early version for '70-'72 applications. From what we have observed, the differences between the early and late versions are threefold: 1) the return spring tab on this pedal has a horizontal orientation whereas the late version is angled up at 45 degrees. 2) the clevis tab on this early pedal style is slightly shorter whereas the late pedal is marginally taller, possibly for a different throw. And, 3) the shaft bore on this pedal is approximately 11/16". In contrast, we believe the '73-'78 pedal used a bushing with a 5/8" diameter. To our knowledge, early and late components don't interchange.
