Harley AMF Keihin Carburetor, Early Type (Sportster/Shovelhead, OEM 1976-E78)
The faithful Type 1 Keihin.
Using Bruce Palmer's terminology, there are 3 "Types" of the Keihin. This is a Type 1, correct for FX, FL, and XL models, 1976-Early '78. Frankly, it's one of our favorite choices for reliable performance. It's an extremely simple design, easy to rebuild, very fuel-efficient, and it has a simple choke function compared to later versions. This is a reliable, stock performer.
Both throttle and choke plate have good function, correct cable guides are attached, float bowl assembly is complete with jetting and correct float, and all flange bolt holes have good threads.
This assembly has not been run in a number of years. So a complete cleaning and rebuild kit is required, prior to use. Plastic fuel inlet elbow looks aged and dry, so it will need replacement as well. We always recommend solid brass inlets.
